What's the use of the usability mailing list (openerp-expert-ergonomy@lists.launchpad.net), then?
ReplyDeleteGTK client:
ReplyDelete- Save the current view when leaving
- Have a "back" behaviour, just like with the browser
- Allow devs/users to group buttons on the right hand side
- Composite screens/Split view. Multiple forms/screens on one tab. It's quicker than having to go back and forth all the time to check things.
- An administration button, so that we can quickly change a setting without having to visit the menu
Like Albert says you should consult the usability mailing list or the Blueprint in launchpad.
ReplyDeletehttps://blueprints.launchpad.net/openobject-client
GTK client:
- Drag and drop of tab over another openerp GTK client instance. (this will allow Multi-screen support)
- Icons for model on tab (one quick view of tab and you know what is in. (server part is already done: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/openobject-server/+spec/custom-icon-with-model)
- Tab name should be changed with record name when you are in form view (Only one record)
- A good WYSIWYG html editor (the included one is broken)
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/openobject-client/+spec/editor-wysiwyg
- Filter button should be aware of other filter button
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/openobject-client/+spec/filter-button-should-be-aware
- Many2many double should open record on a new tab, not in popup. Popup windows are blocking multi-tasking. (Ie: telephone ring when you are editing a record)
- Attachment quicker access, save as, drag and drop to an email client...
An another one I am already working on:
ReplyDeleteAllow linking any record to any other record, a super Many2many, that I called resource link.
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/openobject-server/+spec/many2many-resource
so replacing those limited links and attachment:

by this
Target:

Current development so far:

This blog is intended to share ideas about usability. I take note of yours. And guidelines will be published soon.
ReplyDeleteYou can also use the usability mailing list (more extended). I am subscribed of this mailing list.
Some things that would I would find useful
ReplyDelete- enhanced wiki fnctionality, like displaying it in a html control in the form client, a menu bar to link openerp objects to a wiki page.
- a good email client integrated into openerp.
- add the full text search like in the koo client
- in export export all items in a list not just the ones on the current page.
- provide admin access to the openerp log through the client.
- easily
- add an openerp rss feed to the openerp client with all the latest news and product updates. I find that I crave blog posts about up coming functionality etc. The content on the home page of openerp changes rarely. I am sure there is a lot of things going on that could premote openerp better.
Hello Grendo,
ReplyDeleteWe are trying our best to improve usability and features of Open ERP.
"enhanced wiki functionality, like displaying it in a html control in
the form client, a menu bar to link Open ERP objects to a wiki page."
- We already provide definition and object details in Administrations.
"a good email client integrated into Open ERP."
- We have integration facility of Thunderbird and Outlook and crm has been
improved to facilitate the exchange of mail. You should see these improvement in next stable version
"-add the full text search like in the koo client
- in export export all items in a list not just the ones on the current
page."
Yes, We will sure consider these two features in next improvements.
"- add an Open ERP RSS feed to the Open ERP client with all the latest
news and product updates .. "
Yes we can set link or make "Check Updates" where you can find the
all updates.
We value you opinion and we will do our best to make Open ERP more
simple and user friendly.
@Viral
ReplyDeleteThunderbird integration is broken. It doesn't work with TB 3.x. See launchpad for report(s).
So, if we're blocked with our email clients upgrade plans because the addon isn't updated and we have to wait for the next major release every time, I'd rather have an integrated email client that would be used just for specific roles (sales, accounting, etc.)
Hi Olivier,
ReplyDeleteI have checked with TB3.x You can get latest updated module from trunk and its working fine.Still we are improving thunderbird integration module. We will try best to make that bug free.
@Viral
ReplyDeleteOK, I'll try to get the trunk module to work and will make comments on the bug report, but I'm a bit puzzled as to why it hasn't been copied from trunk to stable as thunderbird3, would make things easier :)
HI Aline!
ReplyDeleteIMHO you got a difficult job.
From the usability point of view OpenERP has a lot of deficits mentioned over and over and agreed by many members fo the various expert lists.
IMHO it would be desirable to continue the discussion on the mailing list
openerp-expert-ergonomy@lists.launchpad.net
because no one expects, searches ,reads and discuss this in the blog

ReplyDeleteThe latest TB addon from trunk doesn't install on TB 3.1.1, but if you modify it to make it work, then it doesn't work with the stable version of the module on openERP5 and the trunk version of the module doesn't appear in the list.
So, still no solution for TB3
hello Olivier,
ReplyDeleteThere are lots of improvements are made in Thunderbird plug-in. You can get that from trunk-addons branch.
Thank you Viral.
ReplyDeleteI see that it now installs on TB3.1, which is great news, but we still can't use it with OpenERP 5.x
